The IBM EdTech Youth Challenge India is an applied learning experience for students to learn about key concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and identify issues in their communities that can be tackled using AI technology and Design Thinking methods. This challenge will focus on using AI for a Better India: Applying AI and machine learning to help solve existing or imminent problems facing Indian society including climate, agriculture, healthcare, and security.
We're proud to be partnering with Central Board of Secondary Education along with our implementation partners, 1M1B and Learning Links Foundation.

Competition overview

AI Course & Idea Submission

At the start of the competition, students receive a comprehensive introduction to AI. They first attend a virtual workshop on AI concepts and using AI for good by IBM partner 1M1B. They then complete the online AI Foundations course by IBM & ISTE.  Following this training,  students form teams and submit their ideas for a problem from their community they wish to solve using AI.

Project ideation

The top ideas are selected, and these teams are mentored by experts from IBM partners to refine their ideas and how they can further develop their ideas using AI concepts.

Mentoring & Challenge Project Logbook

Selected teams are mentored by AI experts from IBM to develop prototypes of their ideas, incorporating responsible usage of AI.  Mentors will guide the teams on developing their solutions using the Design Thinking framework and working through the Challenge Project Logbook.

Final Application Submission

After mentoring is complete, students will submit the Challenge Project Logbook and a short video pitch capturing their project journey and explaining the problem they are addressing, their idea, and their solution along with prototype.

Pitch Day

15 projects are selected for Pitch Day, and these teams will present their solutions to a panel of judges. The judges will evaluate the presentations, and the top 3 will be declared winners of the IBM EdTech Youth Challenge India 2021.

Showcase & Two-week Internship

The top 3 winners will be provided opportunities to showcase their innovation to the IBM and CBSE senior leadership along with media coverage. The 3 winners as well as top 10 teams will participate in a two-week internship experience. These internships will be driven by IBM  with support from our partners.
